Dr F. Javier Ramos obtained his Chemical Engineering degree in 2010 at University of Castilla–La Mancha (UCLM, Spain). Later, he obtained his PhD in Materials Science and Technology at the University of Seville in 2016. He has worked at Institut Photovoltaïque d’Île-de-France (IPVF) and Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) (France), and he is currently Associate Professor in Biotechnology at UCLM. He has been mainly focused on the development of materials and nanomaterials for photovoltaics, thermal applications, and recovery of wastes, including valorization of wasters for functional foods.

Professor Isamu Kaneda received his Bachelor of Science (Polymer Science) degree from Hokkaido University in March 1984 and immediately entered the graduate school of Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he received his Master of Science degree in 1986. After the graduate school, He started his research career in industry.　In 2001, he was awarded a PhD from Rakuno Gakuen University. In 2007, he joined as a professor in Rakuno Gakuen University (Food Physics Lab). His research field is rheology of food and soft matter, and he has been working on rheology control techniques for cosmetics and food products. Recently, he has been interested in molecular and physical gastronomy, and aims to explain the origin of “OISHISA (deliciousness)” of various foods molecularly by quantifying the texture by rheological methods and analyzing the microstructure in foods by small-angle x-ray scattering and other structural science methods.

Francesca Valenti, architectural and building engineer (MS, 2012), PhD in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Science (2018), Assistant Professor at University of Catania until June 2023. Currently is Associate Professor of Agricultural Machinery and Mechanization at the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences of the University of Bologna. Her research activity mainly focuses on analyzing the feasibility of implementing anaerobic digestion systems to treat and utilize specific agricultural wastes for renewable energy production, GIS-based analyses, modelling and planning; evaluation of the environmental sustainability of innovative production processes through LCA. Within these topics she was involved in several research projects by collaborating with Michigan state University (USA). In 2021 she has got the Italian scientific qualification for the role of full professor for the macro sector 07C1 - Agricultural, Forestry and Biosystems Engineering.

Before joining IGES as a Senior Fellow in 2024, she worked as a Principal Consultant at Resource Futures in the UK. She has extensive experience supporting national governments and private sectors in developing various models and tools for carbon and sustainability assessment across multiple fields, including waste, textiles, paint, plastics, and the steel industry. Nirmala also worked as a consultant for the Energy Saving Trust in the UK, where she helped to assess the sustainability of solar-based cold rooms and refrigeration systems for the African region. Additionally, she has been a fellow at IGES since 2014, contributing to numerous quantitative based policy research and tools/models development projects. From 2011 to 2014, Nirmala served as a policy researcher at IGES, focusing on quantitative research and model/tool development enabling policy and decision-making. Earlier in her career, she worked as a researcher at The Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE) in Thailand and as a lecturer at the University of Peradeniya before joining IGES in 2011. In recognition of her significant contributions to climate change research, she has been honoured by inclusion in Marquis Who's Who in the World and was ranked among Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for 2023-2024.

Dr.Yao Liu is an University Associate at the Wicking Centre, University of Tasmania in Australia. She had a distinguished career in biology and medicine research since completing her initial postgraduate studies at the Shandong University and Fudan University, prestigious Universities in 2000 in China. She has been a committee member of Australia Chinese Association for Biomedical Sciences, a senior member of the Chinese Society of Cell Biology, a invited reviewer for academic journals such as Molecular Neurobiology and International Journal of Biological Macromolecules. In 2024, she was invited to contribute to a book chapter in the books entitled "Bioactive Natural Products" which is being published by Elsevier Science Publishers, London, United Kingdom.

Po-Hsiang Chang is committed to basic research with respect to the adsorption and removal of water environmental pollutants by natural materials, such as nanominerals, and synthetic materials, such as MOFs materials. His study is focused on the cation exchange of interfaces, molecular adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics, molecular simulation characterization, and molecular adsorption mechanisms. A new protection mechanism for structural intercalation to prevent organic molecules from desorbing and causing secondary pollution was proposed; the removal rate of nano-minerals and related adsorption parameters were analyzed, and the understanding of the interaction mecha-nism between nanominerals and organic molecules was analyzed from a macroscopic perspective. Not only does the study discuss the adsorption amounts and adsorption types, but it also provides an in-depth understanding of the ultra-microscopic level of mineral fine structure and organic functional groups. It specifically reveals the process of natural nanominerals affecting the fate, migration, and transformation of organic pollutants in the surface environment and provides technical support and method selection for the development of low-cost and high-efficiency pollutant prevention and control projects for environmental remediation projects. The results are a theoretically guided role and have value for potential applications.
